Lemon, a cryptocurrency exchange and wallet based in Argentina, has been granted a license to facilitate fiat-crypto transactions in Peru. This makes Lemon the first exchange in the country to offer such services, allowing users to deposit and convert fiat to crypto with just a phone number.
Lemon Receives Peru’s First Fiat-Crypto Interoperability License
Lemon, a prominent exchange serving Latin America, has achieved a significant milestone by securing the first fiat-crypto interoperability license in Peru. With over 2.6 million users across Latin America, Lemon will now enable Peruvian users to transfer fiat currency to and from their Lemon accounts using only their phone numbers.
Tomas Field, Lemon’s PR Manager, shared that the company has gained over 12,000 users in Peru within just three months of its launch and aims to expand to 120,000 users by 2024.
The primary goal of these new services is to simplify the process for Peruvians to enter the crypto market, allowing them to quickly transfer fiat currency and purchase digital assets.

Federico Biskupovich, COO of Lemon, emphasized the significance of this development for those looking to enter the cryptocurrency space in Peru. He remarked:
“Until recently, buying cryptocurrencies in Peru required expertise. Starting today, users can easily transfer or exchange soles with Lemon and buy cryptocurrencies instantly. This is a pivotal moment for the Peruvian financial ecosystem”.
In May, Lemon’s founder Marcelo Cavazzoli announced the launch of Lemon’s crypto-only phase in Peru, describing it as a product tailored for Latin America. He noted that this initial phase would help the company gauge demand for its various crypto offerings and refine its services based on community feedback.
