Over the weekend, several prominent blockchain projects faced similar attacks on their Discord servers, all involving fraudulent token distribution schemes.
Avalanche and ZKsync’s official Discord servers were compromised less than 48 hours after Polygon’s Discord was similarly breached.
On August 25, Avalanche’s official account on X alerted users that their Discord had been hacked and advised them not to interact with any links posted. Screenshots from Avalanche’s Discord revealed that attackers had shared links to fake “distribution” schemes promising free AVAX tokens. Avalanche’s community lead, Ben Well, confirmed the issue was resolved and the server was being restored.
Shortly after the Avalanche incident, ZKsync’s official Discord was also breached. Hackers posted links to a fake “round 2 airdrop” scheme offering free ZK tokens. Although ZKsync has not officially commented on the breach, team members have acknowledged the issue on Discord.

The attacks on Avalanche and ZKsync followed a similar breach of Polygon’s Discord, where hackers shared malicious links across the server. Polygon’s chief information security officer, Mudit Gupta, confirmed the breach and advised users to avoid clicking any links until the situation was resolved. Affected user ValidatorK reported losing $150,000 worth of Ether after engaging with what seemed to be an official announcement on Polygon’s Discord.
These incidents contribute to a growing list of Discord-related exploits. In March 2023, CertiK exposed a phishing scam on the Arbitrum Discord server, involving a fake announcement with a malicious link. Similarly, in May 2023, Gnus.AI fell victim to a Discord exploit, resulting in a loss of approximately $1.27 million.
