X Adds Payments Feature To Latest Dev Code Release Will Dogecoin Payments Follow?

In a recent update, X (formerly Twitter) introduced a payments feature in its latest software release, sparking renewed speculation about the potential inclusion of Dogecoin payments when the service officially launches.

X Payments in Development

According to Swakshan, a user known for leaking details about upcoming features, X’s payments feature is currently in the development phase. This indicates that X is advancing with its plans for a payment service, with a possible public update later this year.

Elon Musk, X’s owner, previously announced his vision of transforming X into an ‘everything app,’ with the payment service being a key component of this strategy. To support this goal, X has obtained money-transmitting licenses across various U.S. states. As of now, the platform has secured licenses in 35 states, with the latest addition being from North Dakota. This leaves 15 states remaining, and acquiring licenses in these states is crucial for the payment service’s launch. The timeline for obtaining the remaining licenses is still uncertain.

Crypto Community’s Interest

The crypto community is particularly keen on the launch of X’s payment feature due to speculation that Dogecoin payments might be included. Musk’s well-known enthusiasm for Dogecoin has led many in the DOGE community to believe that it could be part of the payment service. While Musk has not yet confirmed the integration of Dogecoin, he has previously hinted at the possibility in his biography.

Details from Development Code

Swakshan has also shared insights from the development code of X’s payments feature. Although there is no explicit mention of Dogecoin payments, a URL in the code (/i/payments/verify-payment-method) suggests that multiple payment methods will be supported, potentially including Dogecoin.

For now, Dogecoin enthusiasts will need to wait for official confirmation from X regarding the inclusion of Dogecoin as a payment method. Dogecoin influencer Mishaboar has indicated that there is no concrete confirmation beyond current rumors and speculation.

Additionally, Musk recently reiterated his affection for Dogecoin, citing his “soft spot” for the meme coin due to his fondness for dogs and memes. He also noted his lack of interest in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, suggesting that Dogecoin might be the sole cryptocurrency integrated into X’s payment service.
